About Learn Mistake
Learn Mistake is a how-to resource for people who want to study well, not just study hard. Most of us learn the way we were shown in school—reread the chapter, highlight the important bits, cram the night before—and most of that is a comfortable illusion. Decades of cognitive science point to a smaller set of techniques that actually move the needle: retrieval practice, spaced repetition, interleaving, deliberate practice, and keeping an honest error log. This site teaches those methods end to end, with prerequisites, steps, and the pitfalls that trip people up.
We write for students and self-taught adults, roughly 16 to 40, who are preparing for an exam or wrestling a hard subject on their own—organic chemistry, calculus, a new language, the bar, a certification. Every guide is standalone and built to stay true for years. When a method depends on a specific tool or number, we say so and cite it; otherwise the advice is meant to outlast any single app or exam season.
We also do the unglamorous work of debunking: why highlighting feels productive but rarely is, why rereading fools your sense of mastery, and when cramming is genuinely the wrong bet. And we review the tools you'd actually use—flashcard apps, spaced-repetition software, and paid courses—with every claim tied to a named study or researcher rather than a vibe.
Our promise is simple: no motivational fluff, no unsupported hacks. If we recommend a technique, we'll tell you what the research shows, where it's weaker than the headlines suggest, and how to run it yourself starting today. The goal isn't to study more hours. It's to make the hours you already spend actually stick.
